Call for Papers

Corpus-based research in recent decades has identified and sought to explain a variety of phenomena on the level of discourse involving the syntactic and semantic-pragmatic regularity of lexical units. The recurrence of certain syntagmatic profiles of a word or phraseological unit in similar communicative situations reinforces the idea of the existence of patterns of usage within our mental lexicon, which are used in an almost automated way in the communicative process. Taking into account current methods for the description of linguistic patterns, the general theme of this conference seeks to address the phenomenon of existing models in the language from the following positions:

  1. From a cognitive point of view, the metaphorical and metonymic models underlying phraseological units represent an interesting area of study, in both the contrastive and monolingual fields.

  2. In terms of Construction Grammar, phraseological constructions, in their status as conventionalized form-meaning pairs with free slots, lend themselves especially to a comprehensive syntactic-pragmatic analysis.

  3. Within the framework of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics, corpora and usage-based data constitute a sound basis for the pragmatic analysis of the syntagmatic patterns of the phraseological units, either within the same language or at a contrastive level.
